The slicing beams of white-hot light incinerated the wall of shadowmen in an instant. The destruction was soundless, vaporizing the shadowmen, leaving not a trace behind. And as the white light expanded, savagely devouring the black shadowmen as it went, the destruction was chillingly quiet.

“Grrr—grahhhh!”

And their pursuer, Reisel, beheld the horrors with a shriek. He cried out not in rage or humiliation. He shrieked in unbearable agony.

The shadowmen were linked to Reisel, albeit weakly. That was how he was able to see through them and manipulate such a large number of them at will. But conversely, that also meant he shared their pain when they were destroyed.

Each vanished shadowman hurt no more than the prick of a needle. But when multiplied by one hundred…one thousand…it quickly added up. And when stabbed by ten thousand needles, one could only imagine the pain.

“Gah…gruh-guh…”

Drool spilled from the corners of Reisel’s mouth, his eyes dripping with tears of blood. Reisel’s instincts begged him to stop, knowing any further damage would be lethal. But he could not withdraw. Reisel had a compelling reason not to.

“Not yet… It’s not over…yet…!”

He had no actual wounds on his body. He was not bleeding, nor were his bones broken. If his psyche could overcome the searing pain, he could still move through it.

And this psychological fatigue and self-harm had twisted Reisel’s features.

“Don’t think…you’ll get away…that easy… Chee-hee-hee!”

He kept ripping fur from his cheeks, birthing another army of shadowmen to swarm the cart. With the jet-black wall gone, the cart had burst ahead and put quite a distance between them.

His beady eyes fixated on the cart, Reisel borrowed the vision of his army closing in on it—

“—Ahh.”

That was when he saw the silhouette of a large man emerging from the wild grass. The dog-man’s burnt-brown face was ferocity personified. With an orange cat-person perched on his shoulder, the giant man swung his ax downward, splitting a wide chasm into the ground.

They were old acquaintances. So at a glance, Reisel knew exactly what that meant. As a variety of emotions filled him, Reisel stared at the ax in astonishment.

A swarm of shadowmen equal to or greater than the swarm that had formed a wall surrounded the cart.

“W-wait, Ricar—”

“Wah—Hah!!!”

The obliterating roar swallowed every single one of Reisel’s shadowmen and took the world with them.
